Thanks to all our players - OWBA, WBS and South Molton RFC - for giving us all some great matches and captains for organising teams. A special well done to Monty P for playing in the Basketball and then going stright on to shoot!
OWBA vs WBS Basketball
Basketball made a return to the OWBA Autumn Sports line up and with it some recent star players along with a few legends from the 90s. The more 'mature' members of the team were told to take it easy during warm up and even referred to as 'a bunch of grandads' by an anonymous spectator but they soon showed that they still have plenty of skill and, as a team, they had what it took to play some serious ball!
The fast-paced game saw plenty of action with dunks a plenty and the scores soon mounted up. The WBS team showed huge enthusiam and talent but it was the OWBA's day, winning 80 - 56.
Thanks to our ref, scorers and to all who played.

OWBA vs WBS Shooting
The veterans and the school team met at 14:30, despite the forecast of heavy rain later in the afternoon it was decided to try to get all the shooting done at the outdoor range. Due to a bit of key confusion everyone, including our octogenarian club president, climbed the fence in order to get shooting underway (which either says something about his fitness or MoD security, or both!). The school was able to field a team of four, so four OWBA scores were selected at random out of the eight that were there to shoot. All staff members present including the headmaster were able to shoot as well. Two competitions were held, one with .22 “small bore” rifles, the other with .308 “full bore” rifles. Each had five sighters to form a group and then five scoring shots. The full bore rifles are accurate to 1200 yards so using them at 25 yards is a little like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut however it gave the pupils valuable experience with the more powerful rifles under the tutelage of the OWBA team.

Well done to Harry Ayres and Amy Brown for the top full bore and small bore scores respectively. This gave two wins to the OWBA which is unsurprising as the school team has very few opportunities to practice, however there is a plan in place to restart shooting at the school so in time it should become a fairer match!

OWBA vs WBS Girls Hockey
After the annual scramble of getting together an OWBA team the girls surpassed expectations and even managed to have a spare player as a reserve! We had a welcome mixture of familiar and new faces for the OWBA team (as well as good sibling representation from the Boyles and Maskell’s sisters) . Unfortunately we were without a goal keeper, so played with 11 out field but managed to make do!
With a few of us dusting off our hockey sticks for the first time since last year, the school team gave us a great run around, and put us to shame with our terrible fitness…
It’s always a very enjoyable and nostalgic day being back on the Astro and I know all the girls had a lot of fun - so it was lovely to end with a 5-2 win.
Special mentions to Anna Wilson and Saffy in our forward position securing us some of those valuable goals!

OWBA Rugby vs South Molton RFC
As we all met in the tuck shop we all agreed that it was going to be a hot and sweaty match much to our surprise with the recent Devon weather.
After grabbing our OWBA shirts we headed out for an extremely efficient 15 minute warm up. Once the match started we had to defend for roughly 15 minutes without touching the ball once. This lead to South Molton taking an early 5-0 lead. We then scored twice to finish the first half 12-5.
A rather rubbish motivational speech from myself and no water due to a miscommunication with the sideline, then into the second half. With the advantage of the downhill we started to pull away scoring another two tries, putting the score up to 20-5. South Molton then pulled a score back. But with Henry Wilton making an interception he scored the final try of the match. The score finished with us winning 27-12.
After a well needed shower, we all put our Sunday best on and headed down for the awards and pasties, and a rather large cup of port we had to share.
Overall, a great day!
