“The Road to El Nido is the title of the first Ian Tercaronni Adventure. Tercaronni dies in paradise only to find himself in 1969 aged 16 and standing on a railway platform with a forlorn and battered suitcase. He sets off across the carpark to meet the bus that will transport him and other newbies to West Buckland Boarding School.”

This beginning was taken directly from my own experience arriving at West Buckland from Bahrain where my father served in the Royal Navy. My suitcase held everything I needed to commence a new and somewhat frightening life at the school. I felt quite alone on that first day, I can tell you!

The time I spent at West Buckland was to be the most exciting and memorable of my life. All except one period that forms the basis of the story. This was when my friend, Nicholas Needham, passed away. The story is, I guess, what I would have liked for him, a great pupil, a very funny boy and a wonderful friend. I hope his family read this story with fond and proud memories.
