WBS v OWBA Shooting - July 2022.

Despite a notable lack of CCF staff, the school managed to put out a squad of well drilled and experienced shooters and the OWBA matched them with equal numbers.

Mrs Emily Harding, currently CCF Officer, was standing in as Contingency Commander, Senior Staff Instructor, Range Conducting Officer and First Aider and also provided a compliant Risk Assessment, all the correct paper-work, correct trophies and shooting tea for our results and prize giving ceremony. Oh, and despite not being a regular shooter and having a bit of an eye handicap ( which was soon solved with some safety glasses and gaffer tape! ) she shot as Reserve for the School against myself as reserve for the OWBA......... And guess who won that contest.....?

Richard Page (72-79F) and Mark Beckett (71-79F)  started things off for the OWBA team and shot against Jono Williams ( cpt') and Andrew Savoury on the School team. Mark was captain of shooting when at school but neither have shot since leaving, forty four years ago. Their combined score of 225 was an excellent start against Jono and Andrews 214. Amy Brown (14-21C) and Ben Unwin (04-17C)  made their VRC debut with a possibly unbeatable 274 whilst Harry Ayres and Peter Savoury scored 125 each and started to close the gap on the scoreboard. OWBA were comfortably leading by 34 at the halfway stage.

The last detail involved Hendrick Coombs (68-73B) and Martin Miller (58-63C) shooting for the OWBA and siblings Pish and Zac Allaway trying to redress the score sheet in Schools favour. Coombs and Miller racked up a respectable 222 between them - would that be enough to win the day. Pish and Zac piled up 213 points for the School which left them thirty points adrift with myself and the inexperienced Emily Harding left to sort things out. Surely my fifty plus years of experience would make this a one-horse-race. Surely I couldn't waste a thirty point lead. Well......Emily out-scored me by a very well earned seven points, which wasn't quite enough to win the day but left her with a big, fat smile on her face. Very well done to Emily and her team but the match honours and the Crowl Cup went back to the OWBA for the first time in four matches.

The Ludlow-Gillies challenge cup, for the highest score on the School team, went to Jono Williams with a commendable 140/200. The best individual score of the day went to Amy Brown, who is now on our side, with an even better 150/200
