The new development on the Harries field now abuts the old mini-range which some of you may remember as the sanatorium. The refurbishment and new concrete steps and hand rails reassuringly add an air of longevity to the existing set up.
The school was unable to put out a full squad due to conflicting interests so we shot two teams of seven. Richard Heywood and Harry Edgells started us off with a combined tally of 111 against Ruan Pring (cpt.) and Chris Davidson-Grant. Chris had to forfeit his clay score for firing on the wrong target so the OWBA went 50 points in front. Mike Woodrow and David Pullman, despite fifty years of non-shooting between them, racked up a respectable 164 against Darcy Constant and Anya Newmans' 173. Lewis Pring and Hendrick Coombs went down next and made good progress with a combined tally of 199 against Amy Brown and Ben Unwin who added 195 for the school.
I went down last against Molly Muir, who struggled with the clay targets, and Ted Kilvington who shot a respectable 78, so the final count put the OWBA/ VRC fifty points in front to reclaim the Crowl cup for another year. Darcy Constant won the Ludlow-Gillies challenge cup for the highest score on the school team.
Many thanks to David Price for organising the whole shooting match and better luck next time.
Chris Wilson.
