OWBA Exmoor Reunion
Sue Pollard, previous Foundation Director once organised a successful "Back to School ". It was with this in mind that last year I took sounding for something similar. The idea was well received!
By the time the 1960's Reunion actually took place, the simple idea had grown into a reunion dinner on 22nd March, preceded by golf at Saunton Sands earlier in the day, followed next day by the opportunity to join in the Exmoor activities be it running, walking or simply imbibing at the Poltimore Arms!
We all owe a great deal to Val Bishop and Monica Carter-Burns for their enthusiasm and commitment in converting the idea, with the support of the wider school, into a two-day event that surpassed all expectations.
Over sixty people attended the dinner including Lady Arran. It is wonderful that the association between the Fortescue Family and the School remains so strong after more than 150 years.
At intervals during the excellent Devon themed dinner, we were given updates, first on the OWBA by Past President, Neil Kingdon, and the Foundation Chairman, Bill Geen and second the Chairman of the Governors, John Light and the Headmaster, Philip Stapleton.
We were impressed to hear of successes and by what is being achieved but also given confidence by the obvious united approach to dealing with the challenges, hopes, and aspirations for the future. Those attending clearly care greatly for our old school and much appreciated the contribution the four of them gave to our reunion.
By contrast the results of Old Boys performances on Exmoor Day were somewhat mixed but a great time was had by all!
Maybe all involved in this reunion have inadvertently created a framework that other year groups can adopt?
