The Exmoor 2018
I last ran this race 21 years ago and decided that it was a nice anniversary to celebrate and to try running again.
I was normally a middle of the pack runner at school so was excited to come back as a much better runner than I was then (Wiltshire Road Race Champion). Very happy to say that today I won, so I can now
officially say that “I HAVE WON THE EXMOOR”.
It was great to go back to WBS; it has changed a huge amount in that time but some of the old traditions still live on which is great to see.
The race was totally different to how I remember it – not muddy pits or river crossings, but the hills were still there! It was also great to see some familiar faces from some other old boys on the start line to
teachers staying much warmer back at HQ.
Getting my medal from Mr Whitfield was fantastic, and starting off Exmoor day with a Mr Coates poem is a great tradition that still goes on today. I’ll be back again to run the Exmoor one day, that is for sure!
Personally, I have wanted to come back and run The Exmoor for a number of years, but this year the
timings were perfect. A few weeks later I headed over to Newport to run the Newport Marathon and I got a PB there of 3hr 17min, and the Exmoor was an important run for my training towards that race.
