WBS v OWBA.-June. 2016.
The Holt Memorial trophy match.

Members of the WBSVRC turned out for our now customary pre-Bisley practice session on the Crowl-Langley full bore range before joining forces with the OWBA to shoot against the school VIII in the Albert Beer range. It was a pleasure to welcome Simon Holt (67-74B) back onto the school ranges after so many years at sea. Also Wakefield Morys-Carter (82-86B) and his family who ended up standing in for absentees!

The school Eight got off to a flying start with Sophie Hide and Luke Cleary scoring a combined total of 158 in the first detail against Simon Holt and Hendrick Coombs (68-73B), who between them managed a shaky 145. Wakefield Morys-Carter and his wife, Megan, went next for the OWBA and levelled the score board with a very good tally of 171, whilst James Mathews and Marshall Read-Jones clocked up an acceptable 155. Freya Carter and Dan Tredant (76-85G) went down in the third detail for the OWBA. Freyas' inexperience let her down slightly on her application target, but Dan kept us in contention with a good personal score of 86. Amy Brown and Ben Unwin put WBS back in front with an excellent joint score of 153. The last detail saw Lewis Pring (78-83C)(OWBA cpt.) and Richard Heywood (77-81F) shooting against Ruan Pring(WBS cpt.) and Arthur Stride-Burrows with both teams level pegging. Richard and Lewis racked up a remarkable joint score of 188 but unfortunately, for WBS, Arthur buckled slightly under pressure and was off target on his clays.
The OWBA   VIII romped home with a final total of 623/1000 while the school team staggered past the post with a team total of 600.

Ruan Pring won the Ludlow-Gillies trophy for the highest individual total on the school team- and of the match, much to his father’s chagrin- and will now be joining the WBSVRC to hopefully shoot at Bisley in July. Age and experience may favour Lewis on the day!

The VRC/OWBA team retained the Derek Holt trophy, which was presented by Simon Holt to Lewis Pring.

Many thanks to Major David Price for organising the whole shooting match, and better luck next time.
Chris Wilson (67-72B) chairman WBSVRC
