OWBA vs WBS Cricket 2010

3 Jan 2011
Another year of dull cloud-filled skies awaited the cricketers at WBS.

After several weeks of scorching temperatures it was disappointing to see the drizzle return……for just one day only!....... as a  well balanced OWBA team with several front line bowlers mixed with the regular ‘I can bat a bit' all rounder assembled at School.

The 40 overs-a-side format was retained and the ‘Old Boys’ were able to ask the School to bat first.  Little more than two hours play was possible before the drizzle became too persistent and play was abandoned.

The School’s score, with all their wickets intact, had reached just over 100 in the 26 overs bowled.  A couple of possible catches did not go to hand; they were literally missed, clearly being the result of faster bowling and the poor light!

For the old boys Branton Palin, Will Moore, Rob Ayre and Dave Vick enjoyed the most activity, all bowling to a high standard.  Chasing leather was limited and the batsmen among us had less to do.  Thanks to the above and Harry Chapman Walker, Josh Singh, Rob Holm, Thomas Pearce (at short notice) and Adam Crispin for turning up to represent the ’Old Boys’.  Although one player short (Rob H. clearly read the local forecast very accurately) the team assembled was the strongest for some years.  Hopefully I'll be able to muster their support again in advance of next year’s match.

Thanks to the School for putting the team together, Baz for the pitch and ground which were in such good shape, also to the School and the OWBA for putting together the required elements for a good barbecue.

Finally, I would like to thank Jack Neville for again volunteering to stand as umpire – it was good to see you back to make it a full OWBA team.  Martin Clark 84-96F
