Last weekend marked the start of competitive sports fixtures for this academic year.

Friday night saw the return of 1st team fixtures against OWBA sides in Hockey, Basketball, and Shooting. We were treated to a display of incredible talent and teamwork, with the West Buckland spirit shining throughout!

The Hockey was a closely fought contest. Both teams demonstrated fantastic gameplay and camaraderie, finishing in a fitting 3 - 3 draw. In the JESC, we witnessed an exhilarating, fast-paced game of Basketball. However, the OWBA pulled away to win 86 - 62. At the Indoor Range, many new shooters joined the competition. Accuracy and consistency were on display, and on this occasion the OWBA lifted the trophy, winning 655 - 390 to round off the evening.

A wonderful evening of West Buckland sport and a great way to start the year!

Under rare blue skies and sunshine on campus, the 1st XV rugby pitch was the stage for an exciting matchup between the OWBA and the Barnstaple Buccaneers.

With the highly anticipated build-up to the match and the weather on their side, the crowd came out in numbers for this spectacular event to see who would lift the Ben Vellacott Trophy. Barnstaple played a stellar game, but although lacking in numbers, the OWBA came together and pulled away for a well-deserved victory.

We’d like to thank Barnstaple R.F.C. for making this match possible and for being such great sports. We look forward to another thrilling fixture next year!
