In the 6th form Sam Howells took us for religious studies.  He roamed over any subject , on this occasion it was asparagus.
Sam described the delights,and special palate required.

I foolishly put my hand up, and said that we grew it in our garden.

Sam just looked as I shrank ,withered,and disappeared behind my desk.
